Regional workshop on Chemical Weapons Convention

Representatives of CETI participated in a regional workshop for member states in Eastern Europe in connection with the technical aspects of the regime of transfer of chemicals under the Chemical Weapons Convention.

The course was organized for representatives of institutions responsible for implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Montenegro.

The training was given by representatives of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), The Hague. The theme of the workshop was the custom control and transfer of controlled chemicals.

Seminar in detection of radiation sources at the border

A seminar on the topic: Ways of response and reaction to the detection of radiation sources at the border, in the organization of EXBS (Export Control and Related Border Security) Program of the US Government and CETI was held in Podgorica on 20-21 October.  The participants included representatives of customs, border police and national institutions that are responsible for responding in case of detection of radiation sources from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro.

Inter-Regional Training Course

ANNOUNCEMENT: Inter-regional training course will be held from 24 to 26 June 2014 in the framework of inter-regional project INT9176 “Strengthening Cradle-to-Grave Control of Radioactive Sources in the Mediterranean Region”

As part of an interregional project INT9176 “Strengthening Cradle-to-Grave Control of Radioactive Sources in the Mediterranean Region”, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, the Environmental Protection Agency and CETI, with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency, will host inter-regional training course from 24 to 26 June 2014, dedicated to the management of disused sealed radioactive sources, which will, in addition to lecturers and participants from Montenegro, involve 17 representatives of competent institutions from 14 countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Ghana, Greece, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, Macedonia, Tunisia and Turkey).

Practical Demonstration Conducted

A practical demonstration was conducted during the inter-regional training course held in the framework of inter-regional project INT9176 “Strengthening Cradle-to-Grave Control of Radioactive Sources in the Mediterranean Region”- on 25 June 2014.

As part of an inter-regional project INT9176 “Strengthening Cradle-to-Grave Control of Radioactive Sources in the Mediterranean Region” organized by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, the Environmental Protection Agency and CETI, with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency, a practical demonstration was held today of procedures of characterization and conditioning of disused sealed sources of ionizing radiation, including radioactive lightning rods, in the radioactive waste warehouse of CETI.

Activities on the management of disused sealed radioactive sources

The activities on the management of disused sealed radioactive sources and radioactive waste have been continued.

After the successful completion of the regional project – IPA 2009 Programme for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection entitled: “Management of sealed radioactive sources, including radioactive lightning rods and strengthening the effectiveness of the regulatory infrastructure in the field of radiation protection in Montenegro, Macedonia and Kosovo”, the activities related to good management of disused sealed radioactive sources of radiation have been continued.

On 30 May 2014, CETI was visited by the members of the United States European Command (US EUCOM), members of the Ministry of Defence, the Army of Montenegro and the Croatian Armed Forces.
