Practical Demonstration Conducted

A practical demonstration was conducted during the inter-regional training course held in the framework of inter-regional project INT9176 “Strengthening Cradle-to-Grave Control of Radioactive Sources in the Mediterranean Region”- on 25 June 2014.

As part of an inter-regional project INT9176 “Strengthening Cradle-to-Grave Control of Radioactive Sources in the Mediterranean Region” organized by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, the Environmental Protection Agency and CETI, with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency, a practical demonstration was held today of procedures of characterization and conditioning of disused sealed sources of ionizing radiation, including radioactive lightning rods, in the radioactive waste warehouse of CETI.


The demonstration was carried out by experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency, company EKOTEH Dosimetry Ltd. For Radiation Protection of Croatia, in collaboration with a team of CETI.

Attendees were addressed by the Executive Director of CETI Nada Medenica, who welcomed them and wished them successful work, and pointed out that this event and similar joint actions are the best way to achieve the objectives of safety and security.

Centre for Ecotoxicological Research (CETI) is the institution responsible for monitoring the quality of all segments of the environment, food safety, and occupational safety. CETI is actively involved in the building of nuclear safety, radiation protection, management of disposed radioactive sources and radioactive waste.

The theoretical part of the training course will be held on 24 and 26 June 2014 at the Aurel Hotel.
